Deadline approaches for enrolling through state insurance exchange

For individuals seeking to enroll for health and dental insurance through the state-run insurance exchange called Washington Healthplanfinder, the deadline is March 31. (Questions about dental coverage under the Affordable Care Act for persons 18 years of age and younger and the expansion of state Medicaid to cover adults can be found on the coalition’s page here.)

According to the exchange’s web site, plans purchased by 11:59 p.m. on March 31, will be effective May 1, 2014. The next open enrollment period will be Nov. 15, 2014, to Feb. 15, 2015.

Those who qualify for Medicaid, also known as Apple Health in Washingtion state, may continue to enroll throughout the year.

An FAQ page has been published by Healthplanfinder to answer questions the public, providers, and others may have about the deadlines, exceptions, and situations for persons not sure about their applications’ status.

 

Oral health presentation on xerostomia (dry mouth)

The Pierce County Oral Health Coalition is proud to organize an hour-long oral health presentation on March 12, followed by a regular PCOHC meeting (1-3 p.m.).   One continuing education (CE) credit is available.

  • Xerostomia (Dry Mouth): Causes, Symptoms and Management.  Presentation by Pierce College Dental Hygiene Faculty & Students.
  • Presentation will take place at Evergreen State College-Tacoma Campus, located at 1201 6th Street, Tacoma. For directions and a map, please go here.

The event is recommended for oral health professionals and providers and individuals and groups who are interested in learning more about xerostomia.
